Kester 60/40 -

Hey guys, I’m about out of an old roll of Kester 60/40 and want to get a fresh roll. Anyone kow if Kester # 2460400027 is the old classic 60/40 that I want..?

Are there other 60/40 solders worth considering?

That uses their "44" activated flux which is probably the one you're used to. I prefer eutectic solder (63/37) so that's what I buy, Kester # 2463370027

Instead get the 63/37, it's much better.

63/37 doesn't go through a plastic stage when cooling, it goes straight from liquid to solid. This behavior makes it preferable for electronics soldering.

Indeed, non-eutectic solders are hard to rework and can increase the incidence of dry-joints for hand-soldering as any motion during the pasty stage can create cracks/voids. For Sn/Pb the eutectic ratio is 63/37, for lead-free its the sort with 4% silver.

Thanks, guys. Ordered a spool of the # 2463370027 63/37. I’ll give that one a try on a PCB I need to get going on. Is that solder going to work on wiring as well as on the PCB?
