Churchill Downs Shutting Down Horse Racing Operations

Two more race horses were killed over the weekend. At Belmont Track this time.

Both suffered the same exact leg injury.

Excursionniste was injured and ended up getting euthanized, marking a horse’s death at all three Triple Crown race sites, which includes Churchill Downs (Kentucky Derby) Pimlico Race Course (Preakness Stakes).

Then, Mashnee Girl was euthanized on Sunday following "catastrophic injury" to the left front leg during a race at Belmont Park, per the New York Racing Association.

It was the same injury that occurred to Excursionniste.

Can I ask what your connection or particular interest in this version of animal cruelty? With so many to choose from, it’s interesting this is your choice. On top of that you have opened more than one thread on this and the Mod crew is more than a little curious. Is this really the place you want to do this? Perhaps there are other websites more suited to an item as specific as this.

Some sort of crowd exposure to put moral pressure about a topic close to the OP's heart?

I have no idea how big a financial event this is, compared to other forms of betting, including those in other sports.

But I feel that it has little relevance in an audio forum...some threads like the food and humor threads are attracting more interest than those about sport, and horse racing is only one of those.

It has been said there is a lot of investment, pomp and show in horse racing, particularly in the UK, and Kentucky.
Also, car racing...but we hardly see posts about that here.

So, politely, please back off.

My understanding of The Lounge forum is that it is “A place to talk about almost anything but politics and religion.” That is pretty clearly stated in the heading. And certainly this subject does not involve either one of those.

The reason I started a new thread is that the previous one on this same subject was closed. I’ve gone back and looked at the last series of posts in that thread and still don’t understand why it was closed. There doesn’t seem to be any real controversial or derogatory posts leading up the closure. In fact, there were quite a few “Likes” added to some of the posts calling attention to this issue.

There appears to be now an additional unspecified requirement that a subject not be controversial or in any way unpleasant. Perhaps it would be good to include that in the heading so that none of us start posts meeting those criteria. Although what might be considered unpleasant or controversial to one person might very well be worthwhile and meaningful to be discuss by others.

Some people have claimed that these posts about horse racing have nothing to do with audio and that is absolutely true. But I thought that was the very purpose of The Lounge. To discuss things not related to audio, since those are covered very well in a plethora of other forum topics.

NareshBrd,

While this is basically an audio forum there is a specific part of it, namely The Lounge, that is set aside for discussing other things.

Just look at the subheading. It states quite clearly that this is “A place to talk about almost anything but politics and religion.”

I like watching horse racing and like studying the form on top class (Group 1) races. But am shocked at this diuretec (dehydrating) business. It could be outlawed easily enough.

Flat racing really ought to be safe enough in my opinion. I would not object to whips being banned either, though I believe they have a safety aspect. Only a jockey could answer that.

Why not?
Most theads in the lounge area have nothing to do with audio, thats the point of the “lounge”.
I am a big fan of the lounge. I get saturated with audio and take breaks from it. Doesn't mean I don't like to communicate with all the woderful people I have met through this site.
The more generic question would be: why does diyAudio have a lounge?
There are some very interesting things about diyAudio members that you might not know were there no lounge area.
Why not? It's good to just chew the fat on issues sometimes...
This is as correct as it gets.
