I've been to Jamaica before and they take their music very seriously. When you're in Kingston, a very urban city, people have big speakers set up in the front yard or on the sidewalk everywhere. And they're playing them loud.
It's been a long time but I remember even the most humble household had a nice sound system. Good old vintage hi-fi equipment there is treasured; anything new is prohibitively expensive and like the cars in Cuba they keep their gear working. A lot of people know how to repair it there. Used parts are the order of the day because duty and taxes just about triple the price of anything imported. I remember that even an air filter for my host's Corolla was almost the equivalent of $US60; same thing here is less than $20 even with the big runup in inflation.

At 5:08 ...look at how beat up those speakers are....I had a friend who worked at the same auto-shop where I did for 14 yrs....he DJ d" on the side & at our wedding...lots of gear, a whole basement full floor to ceiling with vinyl. When we started to rebuild his mains, we ran a 30 Htz test tone thru his old ones...the panels would vibrate & leak air, even though they seemed intact, stout & useful. After we completed the first new replacement enclosure, we did the same 30 hertz tone new one on one side, the old one, other side, ...the new ones were virtually silent, more vibrational source, ....the old versions had the panels creating multiples of the one frequency...night & day.
