Inductor choice for

Hi All,
i designed a 4-way speaker, now i have to choose which inducotr to use for the bass section.
The two bass woofers are filtered at 200Hz with a 12db filter, which inductors do you recommend?

jantzen c-coil
erse super Q coil
jantzen air core wire coil
jantzen Iron Core Coil

Thank you

Intertechnik and Mundorf out of the question? Both of those brands have serious coils as well. Intertechnik has 12/14awg i-cores like the SuperQ, but less dcr and higher power handling. Mundorf has transformer cores, which should be considered when looking in these component directions.

Of your list, the top 2 are likely better sounding and more cost effective. The air cores will have huge dcr unless large gauge and expensive to be able to compare to the other 3. Sintered iron core from Jantzen like the P-cores distort quite easily, and should be avoided.

I think the C-coils are great for bass and really low dcr. The SuperQ are less expensive and just shy of the same dcr equivalent. Of your list, these are my picks.

I too leaned towards your same choices and in particular for the C-coils they have also low distorntion in bassa range.
About you point of view C-Coils are very suggested for bass-pass filter at 200Hz like in my scenario ?

Mundorf for me are worse products, but the story is very long 😉
Intertechnik are relay good.

Have you modeled for the effects of the various dcr on the box alignment and freq response? I'm not talking about only the xover circuit and driver here.
Since you are using these xoverd so low, the inductance may cause a peak at the drivers' in box resonance. If this is seen and heard as a problem, then the lowest dcr may not be the best option. Some resistance increase can work wonders on that peak by damping the electrical circuit.

If you have not done this, the results will surprise you.

the upper image is for 0.03 ohm RE of crossover inductor, the lower 0.47 ohm.
It seems that the peak is a little more planed, but not a noticeable difference.
If, on the other hand, I insert re of 2.0ohm inductor, the response evidently becomes smoother: without peaks, but the spl has -4db, i think is so much on the woofer.
at listening with more resistance seem the sound has less punch but more relaxed sound, everything is softer, too much probably.
has more transparency and seem more slow, and the midbass has less body.
with 0.03 re it seems cover the center of spectrum, with too punch, but the sound is more tight

It depends on how much voltage do you plan to use for driving speakers. Too large a current may cause cored inductors to start losing inductance and then the designed x/o point would shift. Do these inductor manufacturers mention any data on saturation current?
