Still working on the parts list to get a rough idea of the total cost before diving in. The volume pot/attenuator is potentially one of the more costly individual items.

They range in price from $10 for cheap generic Chinese to $300+ for stepped attenuators (DACT, Goldpoint, et al.) TKD conductive plastic pots seem to come in about midway in that range. Are they worth the price? Any other recommendations?

Or, my source at the moment is exclusively Tidal so I could dispense with a volume control on the amp altogether and use the one built into Tidal. If I ever want to use vinyl or tape I would probably use a preamp anyway. Thoughts?

How likely is it that you will use input from tuners and tapes? If not much I would say save your money and go without volume control on your SSE. You could add it later if you find it necessary.

P.S. why do you start a new thread for each single parts on your planned SSE build - this one and the CL-140? Perhaps you should consolidate these parts questions in a thread in the Tubelabs Forum.

@Francois G That's sort of how I have been leaning - no pot on the amp. If it becomes a necessity for some reason in the future, I could wire in a pot after the fact. Perhaps one downside of that approach is that the volume slider on Tidal is nowhere near as finely accurate as a pot or attenuator would be.
