well so pink floyds dark side of the moon just celebrated 50 years and new order celebrated 40 years of blue monday, the following 10 years into the 90s was exceptional
i actually did not know of talking heads and b 52s till a visit to the US in 83 and was introduced to it by my uncles aupair from germany,as she played it on her little tape boom box on the beach(jones beach,Long island thanks monica)
but i was going to a lot of clubs and live music places to find new music but really one band blew my mind and probably made be a big audio head and diyer
these guys and this song in particular which is also 40 years old and on a b side no less
and the live version in reman, germany. i did have the hots for lisa gerrad

What did you listen to in the 5 years between the B-52s and Talking Heads forming, releasing their best albums and 1983?1981? Gag!
Now in 1983 we've got some real contenders like Talking Heads, B-52s...
Funny enough, I only like Speaking in Tongues, Mesopotamia, and Whammy Kiss, while everything else of theirs is trash...
I feel the same about their self-titled debut and Wild Planet but everything else is just meh. 😉
As for Talking Heads I like 77 but in '81 there was the Tom Tom Club offshoot which changed everything.

Ah yes, Tom Tom Club in one direction, and Byrne-Eno in another was wildly fresh. But they were false dawns and dead ends for me. Still I recently bought the remastered 'Bush of Ghosts' CD....
tom tom club was ok that song wordy rappinhood was played all day on the radio .i tried to like them ...
i did buy the byrne/eno cd and still play it sometimes, last night i started looking for all my 80s cos and vinyl ,even found my TV and contortion and suicide albums
have to plan a special day to listen again
will post more tomorrow
and who can forget this bass line

Just started playing my ztt (trevor horn) records compilation and who could forget these ( i did avoid the franky goes to hwood and a few others )
Billshurv I am not sure as well, but I worked a bit for Roger eagle at the international club ( Manchester)for a bit doing live music tech,I remember going to ztt records as it was the temple of new music,
Attached is a picture of the back of the cd saying produced by Steve lipson and trevon horn, not sure of sss but it is on their compilation, the music business was really shady at that time

1983 is the year I rushed out and bought the first The The album! What a debut! And couldn't wait for his second. And I also bought the Soul Mining remastered CD.
Loved Propaganda and the remixes until I got sick of them. But went to the record shop and balked as the CD was $16 while the LP was $9, so got the LP.
Much later I bought the double CD 'Produced by Trevor Horn,' thinking it would have the best versions of his tracks, but ironically it was remastered to death, so it never gets played.

My first CD player bought used in the early '90's opened my ears to some great music, Dead Can Dance, Talking Heads, Hawkwind, New Order, Thievery Corporation, Ninja Tunes label, and this which I think is underrated....
