Sonos 5 (stereo pair) positioning

Hi everyone been a while,

Have just got a pair of sonos 5s and im struggling to get the image to centre correctly... im told these are very good speakers and should produce a good image.

I have them at ear height on a solid wood dresser at each end about 3.5ft apart (all the space i have its a yaucht)
And i have done the usual triangle toe in to face each ear.

Im finding vocals sound still like they are coming from each side rather than the image centre?

Maybe someone who has a pair of these could advise thanks.

Mat.

Something to do with this perhaps?

"Place the speaker horizontally and it separates the left and right channels for impressive stereo sound. In the vertical orientation Five smartly adjusts to mono."

EDIT: Two speakers paired in stereo will play in stereo regardless of orientation.

Yes i followed all the instructions supplied, i have them vertical with the tweeter on the inside edge as described and they are paired and playing stereo, i can move the balance slider and get the left only or the right only.

I tried a test track for speaker phase and it sounds very wierd when it plays the out of phase sample so i think thats correct.

If the test track works it rules out a problem with the electronics, so you may have a problem with the acoustics in your yacht.

It sounds like you are limited in where to locate the speakers and they may just be in a bad spot acoustically.

Its a possibility however i had a bose st30 in here before and that was a single box but with stereo and that was imaging all be it narrow, there are a lot of fabrics and solid wood, its always sounded very well damped to me no echoes etc.
