balance potentiometer with centre tap

Hi can any one help I have a potentiometer 250Kw rotary with a centre tap fitted as the balance control on a rotel3000 amplifier, this is broken, where can I get a replacement ,looked on line but cannot find potentiometer with centre tap.Can I fit a standard potentiometer and omit the centre tap

A photo, please.
Alps and Preh, among others...take a look at their sites.

Most controls come with three terminals, the center one is essential, or it becomes a fixed resistor if you use only the outer terminals.

Balance pot controls the division between left and right channels, the center connection has to be used.
As above, a photo of the part, and a correct unit identification are needed to help you further.

It is 250K ohms, the w is for linear or logarithmic operation, look it up.
It is a generic part, quite common and easy to obtain.

There are balance controls in which one half of the pot has a fixed zero resistance.
A dual pot is used in these cases. One for each channel with the half section symmetric from each other.
I own a DJ mixer which uses this configuration. Vestax MDM410. Was removed some time ago because it was bad.

I've also seen schematics here on this forum where the balance ordinary three leg pot has another middle additional tap,
Don't remember now how it was connected.

So, sometimes it isn't a generic part like unobtanium volume pots used with loudness switches.
