Denon Power Supply Compatibility

Greetings,

I have a mint silver/gold Denon DVD 2900 230v unit and I have a broken 120v unit that powers on.

Although not technically DIY to the letter, is it possible that the power supply boards between the 120v and 230v are the same, and will “auto-sense” the incoming voltage?
I was gonna swap the two power supply boards, then noticed that they have exactly the same part numbers, but data tags on the back of the units specifically say 120v and 230v.
Photos of the two boards are attached, and there’s a little strip of paper identifying which is which.

Thanks in advance for any help!

There are three boards listed in the part manual.
E3 : U.S.A. & Canada = GU-3496
E2 : Europe = GU-3496 A
JP : Japan model = GU-3496B

There aren't a lot of differences in the schematic, but I am not the guy to read them for you.
The fuse, and something (capacitor?) to the right of the fuze on the diagram changes from 100/400KMG to 47/400KMG

Sorry, can't help more.

Thanks for your help, much appreciated! Both those caps were 400v/100uf, and the voltage measured the same across them. Also on the boards everything else looked the same. So I reconnected all the little wires, plugged it into 120V, turned it on and… No Smoke! Plus I figured with half the voltage, (hopefully) nothing would fry, but just not turn on. But everything came on!

I was concerned since this is a Region 2 DVD player, that I would need to figure out how to convert it, or swap the main boards. But turns out I don’t need to. Perhaps my dvd isn’t region coded?

It’s working great as I type this. Frank Marino, Live at the Agora Theater!! Thats the main reason for this little project, I wanted to listen to listen to this dvd on my two-channel tube amp rig.

It is Spectacular!

Now I just gotta make room on the rack, and get it slid in there.

Thanks again!

Hi!
Question to the author of this thread, and anyone who can help.
If possible, transfer our conversation to a personal correspondence (because I'm new, I'm on moderation, and therefore I can't write personally).
14 months I can not restore Denon 2900 with the masters

The question is, who can help with spare parts, or sell the entire Denon 2900 DVD drive as a whole?
The laser itself and the drive head are not interested, a drive part is needed.
Also interested in the remote to it - Denon RC-934?

When my Denon-2900 arrived by postal service, I didn't check it right away, apparently it was dropped somewhere.
  • Completely broken off all 8 vertical legs of the drive mount. (gluing didn't work)
  • On the side guides and the drive carriage, the teeth broke off, and the limit switches broke off.
The loops have been replaced, but these problems prevent them from working correctly.

So it goes...

Thanks for this resource, I'll take a look again.
Ebay is always in my control. Both American and European.
But I only need the DVD drive assembly, the head may not work.
It is illogical to buy a whole Denon 2900 for the sake of a DVD drive.
With a remote control, it's easier, by the way. Maybe someone has an unnecessary one lying around, and is ready to sell.

Question to Eped748, on the second model 2900, which, as I understand it, is not working.
Please sell the drive 😉 Be a friend 😉
