I have a couple of questions about my Quad 405-1 that I need help with.
1. What are the values and types of fuses to be placed in those holders in the photo above? These fuses are inline with the secondary output of the transformer, just ahead of the full wave rectifier. The original are BS2950A 5A fast blow. I have scoured 405 documentation but none of it mentions these fuses or their specs.
2. How do I remove the speaker terminals and the clamp circuit in the photo above? There is no obvious way by examining the amp and I don't see any instructions at sites like Dada Electronics and Keith Snook.
Thanks for any help.

I have several 405-1s, from very early (four digit serial) to very late (just before 405-2). None of them have those fuses, so this must be a later addition. What is your units serial number?
If I remember correctly the terminals are soldered into the PCB from the back. You have to unsolder them from the PCB to remove the board.

My serial number is 49125. I did see pictures of a 405 for sale on Facebook which had these same fuse holders. This was also a Canadian Quad so maybe it's a Canadian market "thing".

DOH! I must be legally blind. There is a label on the transformer listing the amp rating of those fuses as 6.3A/125V. I'll assume they are slo-blow. Don't know why I missed that. Thanks for the info on removing the speaker terminals; I'll give it a go.

Your 405 was made by Quad for the Canadian market, to comply with the requirements of CSA (Canadian Standards Association). Thus the fuses in the transformer secondaries, and the bilingual panel markings. In other respects it is pretty much a standard 405.
The secondary fuses are rated 6.3A surge resisting, T6.3A (T for träge (German, sluggish)).

Thank you Huntingdon361.
I'm in the middle of a re-capping and I seem to be having a problem after replacing the main filtering capacitors. These fuses blow almost immediately. I'll have to debug that problem when I have time.
