prices on hi end gear keeps going up, with prices that not all people can afford, so do you loan money to buy gear?

(this is my first try to do a poll and i really do not know if i have done this right, pardon me if this goes unwell.)

I might be guilty of robbing the household account now and again but the head office would have my behind for borrowing money. Gave up credit cards years ago but would those count as a loan? I’m sure plenty here have racked up some serious credit card debt on audio!

are you kidding? that's ridiculous! Not to mention it's never been cheaper to be in to hifi. There are zillions of cheap products that are tested and measured all over the internet and if you want to diy there have never been more resources at your fingertips.

I don’t find parts are expensive enough (yet) to take out a loan so, no.

Audio gear is a luxury that can scale vertically according to ones income, but someone shouldn’t feel they need to attain a certain level or chase the unobtainable.

I'd only ever take out a loan if it's absolutely necessary but never for luxury goods such as audio gear, if i can't afford something i simply don't buy it. Most of my audio related projects take a very long time because of this as i collect parts over time, only buying parts if i have money to spare.

One of the guides for personal finance is to never borrow money to buy something that does not appreciate in value when you own it!

Meaning borrowing to buy a house is fine as it will sell for more than you paid for it in a few years normally. You do not borrow money for a new car as the value drops the instant you own it and more as you drive it.

Now something like a computer depends on if you will use it to make money in a business or just as a toy to read stuff like this.
