Suitable 5-6" midranges for DIY coax-synergy horn

Hi

I got attracted by synergy designs as well as ATH for designing horns. Meanwhile I am quite familiar in the use of ATH but first real project needs now to be started. Basically I want a coax-synergy (inspired by hyperion).

Basic arrangement therefore as seen in the ATH thread here:

I already have a hf108 CD I would like to use.

So now I search for 5-6" midranges which I could modify for biggest possible venting hole in order to mount the CD on the backside. I do not mind some milling but ideally there is already something out there useavle without modification. The bigger the VC the bigger the chance...

Any suggestions for drivers to look at?

Very esoteric, and probably not a good idea. (..an exception might be with an active DSP crossover where physical offset can be delayed in an easier manner.)

In any event, pro coaxial is probably your best bet without serious modification.

If you are looking for something with a large (around 3") voice coil in that size and don't mind the modification then look to Morel, poly HiVi, and the least expensive are probably these:

Lowest Cost:

-of course cutting into the dome will result in a far more irregular upper freq. response for the driver.

Hi
basically you are right. However measurements I saw of all those very small CD never looked great. That is basically the main reason I think about modifying a driver. If it would be worth the effort.....another question.
