Hi!
For field recording I would like to skip dragging a PC laptop along and replace it with something light.
Is there such a ting like a box with USB in and storage of the incoming audio to say a SD-card or alike. Simple operation - push record and forget....
Don't want analog in!

Hi,
Something like zoom f3?
https://www.thomann.de/fr/zoom_f3.htm
Edit: what do you mean by usb in? Digital input of signal to be recorded? Ok no analog in so i suppose it's this.
I don't know about such a recorder.
Maybe an arduino could be setup to do so?

What about something like this - Olympus Digital Voice Recorder WS-852
Sony and Philips also have similar devices.

I could not see an USB port at all?
Please advice. Did you read my problem description thoroughly?

No TNT. It's just it is unusual requirement for this kind of tools.
I had to read your initial post multiple times to get it... Before advice on the Pi.

I believe this would work and eliminate the need for the cosmos. (Or work with it if you wanted?) https://tascam.com/us/product/dr-40x/top
Zoom H4N pro has the same features and specs out a little better (reviews a little better too) for $50 more https://zoomcorp.com/en/us/handheld-recorders/handheld-recorders/h4n-pro/
Thanks again - I should have indeed you that I just biught the Cosmos ADC and it is now of the highest performing right now so I will keep it. Please excuse me.

Has Zoom started providing actual performance specifications? (pause to check the link) Apparently not. Bit depth and sample rate don't tell you if the analog stuff was done properly. What are they afraid to tell you?
Use a cell phone, most record digitally. You can transfer the file using an appropriate method to wherever you need it.
Office recorders also work, the type used by secretaries, I think Olympus had a line of those.
Unless you need to record high quality audio.
Shure may have a suitable product, or use FM mike to transmit the mic. signal to a larger device within range. They can go 100 meters, enough I think.
No ties to any above named businesses.

If you have a cell phone or tablet with Chrome, try these

To use my phone would be very neat. It would save me some 1,6 kg of lugging.
Thanks Juhazi - I need to look into this.

It might be possible to connect a USB audio interface to your phone or tablet. I've confirmed that an old Acer tablet will work with a Burr-Brown USB codec to give me S/PDIF out, but I haven't investigated whether the stereo input (analog or S/PDIF) is usable. A hasty Google suggests that Titanium Recorder might work.

- Ditch the laptop... incoming 2ch USB audio -> store on SD card?
