Search Parts Express or US Speakers for small full frange speakers, not woofers.
1U means 44 mm so you can fit round up to, say, 38m diameter (nominal 1.5") which is very restrictive, maybe there is a oval speaker which allows for a wider horizontal dimension.
I have tried almost rectangular speakers (with rounded corners) designed for TVs, but they were frankly horrible.
Now 2U 88 mm will allow up to 75-80mm speakers, Faital and others have good option there.
Whatever you find, you can put two side by side, specially in the 1U rack.
I have fit small potable radio/transparent plastic intercom type speakers in Rack power amps similar to what you show, particularly in commerciall gallery distributed music and PA systems, mainly for the benefit of the operator in a different room (or floor 😱 ) so he can keep track of music program, interruptions, etc. , not to actually "listen" but as a sort of acoustic "pilot light", a very modest job.

And black magic add angle horn on horizontal device !Wohler used to tip the speaker back at a 45 degrees to allow the use of a slightly larger speaker. You will never get a Who concert out of them but if you limit the low frequencies they will play loud enough.
I was hopping that speakers used in computers leads to a simple solution for 1U... But I will follow (again 😉) Jim advices with a TDA2030 amplifier and a 80mm speaker.
By the way, do studies confirm that round speakers are better then elliptical ?

They certainly seem to sound better. I'd use two small round drivers side by side, before one elliptical driver.
round is best, actual elipse can be pretty good, it's racetrack / rectangle (straight sides, like the cutout in the first post) that typically have more difficulties.
I think you're flogging a dead horse. Whatever drivers you use will make no discernible difference.
Sound-bars only exist because, try as they might, manufacturers could not get a decent sound out of a slim frame TV.
Adapting something like this may be the way to go.
