I’m looking for recommendations for a hot air rework station. I need to do a small amount of smd work and am looking for suggestions. Don’t want to spend too much but also want reliable.
Also suggestions about other ways to accomplish this work?

I think you may want to give a budget range.
I have already joked I may use my wife’s cricut press (basically a programmable square iron) to heat up boards 🤣

Amazon has bunch in different price ranges. I just got a Yihua one for $70. Won't know how I like it until I put it through its paces. Until I get proficient at using it and is something that use a lot, I can't justify to myself the cost of a Hakko rework station over $200.
If all the SMD work is on one side of the board you could do it with a hot plate and pan. Just keep track of the temps so they don't get too high. I did this for a few boards and it worked fine. Use SMD solder paste. You could also use a regular soldering iron if the parts are large enough.

Almost.. this:
I looked into budget hot air guns a year ago. They all have a heater and air in the stick. However you can get better with the air blower being in the box and the heating element in the wand. It makes it smaller. You want the air rate and temps configuratable or you may find those 0402 are difficult to find on the carpet!
