My plan right now is for wooden sides and top panel, with no metal components other than transformer covers. I would handle grounding via direct wiring to the star ground. Are there any issues with this approach that I'm not considering?

Hmm, that's a fair point. It's a tube circuit, if that makes any difference. I assume I would need to shield all four sides to achieve proper isolation?
Yes, it is highly recomended. And provide adequate ventilation for the tubes and passive components.
