Yamaha STAGEPASS 500 capacitor

Hi All,

New to the forum and really enjoyed trying reading some of the Q&A. I used to do a bit of electronics and the local community centre asked if I could take a look at their amp as it died. Completely dead when turned on. I changed the fuse with no result.

It turns out the handle screw came undone inside dropped hit the fan and hit a capacitor in the amp board (see attached).

I tracked it down from the board 2113 to the manual https://www.audioservicemanuals.com...pas/785332-yamaha-stagepas-500-service-manual
As a Mylar Capacitor 1.25u 50V J

You help would be greatly appreciated on the following

1. If the capacitor is in this state would power remain off?
2. If I replace it is there a chance it will work?
3. I can’t find the capacitor to buy anywhere. Any ideas? Can a use a different?

Thanks in advance 🙏

Great thanks 🙏I’m struggling to track down the replacement cap - any ideas.

I had my head in a PCB many years ago so appreciate your help. I’m trying to find an exact but struggling.

Mylar Capacitor 1.25u 50V J

Any thought on an alternative?

I would use 1.2uF @ 100V to be sure. In case you can't find it, you can use 2 units paralleled 0.68uF or one 0.68 and a 0.56uF, all at 100V. If physical space is available, 4 units of 0.33uF is another option. Paralleling units help to distribute RF carrier current and the heat it produces, more evenly. Never use series capacitors here: ESR increases and its looses too.

Sorry but that is a VERY complex amplifier, Class D, with a very complex and DEADLY switching type power supply. well beyond the abilities of any end user and even of most Techs, except somebody well specialized into that type.

I would trust none less than a Yamaha Authorized Service Center, and even so they might straight swap the full board, go figure.

With due respect, I would ask that Community Centre to start searching for a replacement, even if used, the shortest/cheapest path.

Of course they can keepthe current speakers, that´s something..
