Nostromo with a Front Vent?

Which would not, strictly speaking, be a Nostromo. I like my two small Nostromos very much, but I am considering building a third for use as a center channel which will need to be close to the back wall. Can you build one with the same port on the front or is some modification of the port specs or its location needed to make this match well with the true Nostromos? I suppose, a sealed box with the same external dimensions as the small Nostromo might be a good way out, as this system will have three subwoofers (all mono signal). No need to get the lowest 20-35 hz out of the center channel.

I'll read your responses with gratitude.

Hi Skip,

Of course you can change the position of the tube to the front with the downside to have some back reflected midrange "noise" also on the front.
In most of the cases nothing to worry about especially when using it as a center means you are sitting a little bit away from the speaker.

I also got some speakers with rear-ports close to a wall and the best option especially for Hometheater usage was to block the tubes with some damping material. I use a sub so the speakers don't have to hit the lowest notes 😉

If you maybe use the speaker later for something else you might build the Nostros as suggested and block the port instead of having a frontfiring port with a not so nice appeal 😉

I would probably be inclined to use a sealed centre channel. For HT their primary use (at least, that was the original intention 😉 ) is to improve dialogue imaging for off-axis viewers so in theory they shouldn't be receiving too much in the way of LF information anyway. In an ideal world I like as full a range for all channels as I can manage, even if on paper they don't require it, but with my practical hat on, I suspect you should be fine like this.
