10k : 40k SUT volume control question

I would like to us a Sowter 8920F 10k:10k+10k SUT at the input of a CF/buffer line amp, The 8920 is designed for phase splitting duty, but can also used as a stepup, Sowter show the termination to be 20k + 20k per secondary , If the volumn control is placed after the SUT do I need a 40k item, or will 50k be ok or what? Thanks John

You can use a 50K pot and parallel with a 220K resistor to arrive at 40K load to secondary of the step-up input transformer. Depends on how much gain is your line amp and if you don't need so much gain, consider flip it around so you can use a very commonly available 10K pot and the bandwidth will be better and a lighter load to the source.

EDIT: I just noticed you said CF/buffer so it has no gain and you're using the SUT for gain. Disregard what I said about reversing the transformer.
