Hi amigos,
Let me introduce my new DIY floor speakers (2.5 way) based on the "ESSentielle ADS" diagram of "la maison du haut parleur" (MHP)
The cabinetmaking is made of French Ash wood with a vertical grain. (25mm) cabinet size 100x28x30CM
These speakers are based on the famous ESS Heil AMT 3 Tweeter (latest generation) and two Satori MW16PNW-8 Woofers in Egyptian Papyrus whose measurements are here:
http://www.loudspeakerdatabase.com/SB/MW16P#8Ω
The Crossover has been the subject of a 2 year R&D with a gain adjustment, it is manufactured by the "Maison du Haut Parleur" in Toulouse, still in France. It has been specially developed to get the best out of the ESS Heil AMT3 Tweeter.
This Crossover is mounted with discrete SMD type components. The Woofer part is filtered at 6DB / octave with two Jantzen Selfs (Grade 1B copper wire @ 3% / 0.10 Ω) with a very low DCR.
Here are the cutoff frequencies:
385HZ/1700HZ.
Bass Woofer can go down to 32HZ @ +-3DB
I wouldn't be very objective if I gave my opinion, would I?))) But I'm in love with Heil AMT3 Tweeters and I must admit that the first time I listened to these speakers, I took a real slap!
The Satori Woofers seem to marry very well with the ESS Tweeter, the listening is musical, detailed and of a beautiful straightness.
For ESS fans : you can listen to the DIY kit in Paris / Toulouse and in Lyon if you are ever passing through) They are available in a version with a different cabinetry and less elegant than my DIY version but listening and electronics remain the same.
Here the review of the Heil ESS AMT3 Tweeters :

And here are the pictures 🙂

So this a commercial offering?
I don't quite understand what makes you suppose that? These are my DIY speakers = for me )))
I have other diy speakers that I have already shown here btw
Kit ADS ESSentielle"tu peux écouter le kit DIY à Paris/Toulouse et à Lyon"... de quel "kit" s'agit-il ?
//
by the way, I discovered this DIY Project with the ESS Heil AMT 3. Awesome : http://www.audiotechno.fr/html/jalucine.htm

Is it your design?Kit ADS ESSentielle

Crossovers schematic?

nowadays it is essential to make ads !Smells commercial 😉

I like the original looking of the cabinet, and my understanding this what the diy is about in this thread. However if the idea of attenuation setups and maybe slope compensation that comes with it at seing briefly the pcb is smart, it is less a good one to put ceramic capacitors and non wirewound resistors bench !
Also they have already in these 3 little shops an old copy of a design with a 12 and the ESS that never sounding rigth to my ears ! Plus I surmise the kit is made to have The ESS standing free for easier inetegration and sellings. Putting it in a cab certainly ask a redesign because the patern would be changed as the recess distance also if not planned with the new cabinet...
While they didn't do the mistake to cut-off too low... 1800 hz with the former big ESS was the maximum low end that worked. Lower there were reflexion inside the pyramid front shape and emissive material.
But who knows really without having hearing it ? Truth is in the listenning... Perhaps a measurement at listening spot could help more for the readers !
Alas those tweeter are sold three times the price in France than they USA cost !
Anyway this is one of the rare design with AMT we can see at Diyaudio or elsewhere... People are Be contamined those days, ahaha...

As usually TNT I dont understand your attention.... This is a diy project based on the ADS. (System audio dynamique) Diy kit.....Smells commercial 😉

So if this is DIY would you be so kind as to publish here:
a) box dimensions
b) in-box raw driver measurements,
c) the filter design
d) filtered ESS and woofs
e) final system SPL.
Just asking.......

Thank you again for this constructive and pleasant answer.
As you can imagine, the Crossover SMD has a Self on the back of the PCB)
When MHP developed this Crossover it was tested in different configurations and cut at different frequencies. I heard it in its first version and in its last version, (1500HZ and 1700HZ). I was convinced by the latest version. Unfortunately, I don't have the measurements of my speakers, but there are quite a few tests on the ESS Heil AMT Tweeter and the Satori Woofers. For me, it remains a safe bet the design of the Crossover is well done upstream )
I must admit that you are right about the price of Heil ESS AMT in France... it's madness compared to the USA... alas!
But to get an idea of these speakers, I think you have to go through a real listening on the spot... But I am fully satisfied with the rendering and that's nothing to say)
thanks a lot for your answer ))

How much did I pay to make this DIY kit? You mean all inclusive?
The selfs at the back of the pcb are the low pass filter. I went on the link, and you can see it is very simple : first slope 0.5 bass with 4 mH and I mH I assume as no capacitors bipolars are provided but the pcb for the AMT.
Maybe the 1 mH is the low pass of the upper Satori for the AMT or a part of a second order high pass as you seem to say?! ... but I see only 2 coils in the kit link TNT provided. Looks like rather simple kit, nothing really fancy. And definitly ceramic and non wirewound resistor on the pcbs looks like the bad passive parts to acheive this in a loudspeaker, cheaper, bigger margin...
ScottG USA member provided not long ago a link to ESS sells, I confirm it was twice cheaper there !
