I have an issue with the mids and tweeters being too loud ..., they were part of another set-up and i use them and the original crossover " as is " on my own loudspeaker built . If I add series resistance won't this upset / lower the original crossover points .

You need to place L-pads rather than just series resistance just before the drivers you want to attenuate in order to not effect crossovers too severely.
I have already added series resistors to both the mids and tweeters , now they are way less fatiguing to listen to ..., the mids are wired reverse polarity so I would hazard a guess that they're second order crossed . Parts are from cheap kenwood 12in three ways . I suppose I should keep the power level down until I figure this out so I don't blow up speakers due to low frequency over-excursion , huh ?
