Hello forum.
just built an Aleph J two years ago and am very satisfied with its sound.
As time passes by I´d like to build another design, that´s on par or better sounding than my actual amp.
Has anyone heared both amps and could do a little comparison or another recommendation?
Speakers are Tang-Band FR.
Many thanks and best

Thanks for your replies, what does it make the better one?
Resolution, imaging, bass performance?

I would not like to use better, my better could be somebody elses worse. Without doing A/B testing, what I prefer with kx2 is that cymbals and high hats sounds clearer, more natural and realistic, voices are clearer as well.
Bass is more pronounced in kx2. Uncertain of soundstage, kx2 might be slightly "wider". But that is what i experience and somebody else might feel different 😀.
A nice feature is the possibility to adjust the idle current in 3 steps, allowing for some energy saving. You can choose between two types of compensation. Its very silent and has no start/stop pops.
Anyway both are very nice amplifiers, both are keepers.
The kx2 is very nice to build, good and detailed writup.
Build Bonsais line stage as well, small pcb, easily available parts, a quick build and sounds very clean and detailed and also accompanies the Aleph j very well.

At what bonsai line stage you are referring?I would not like to use better, my better could be somebody elses worse. Without doing A/B testing, what I prefer with kx2 is that cymbals and high hats sounds clearer, more natural and realistic, voices are clearer as well.

Thanks, but not easy available parts ☺️
Lsk 389 or jfe2140 are not available....
Oh, sorry about that. I built mine some months ago, then the 2140 was available from mouser. The 2140 is a new part and hopefully comes available again. In the meantime i suppose a strong-willed diyer can build an adapter for some jfe150 or 2sk209 if not minding some manual matching. The pcb has holes allowing for a temporary, more frankenstein-ish approach 😀. But then its no longer a quick afternoon project,,Thanks, but not easy available parts ☺️

edit digikey seems to have 2140 in stock
Aleph J is a single ended design. And reasonable uncomplex.Hello forum.

Hifisonix and Ovation are Push-Pull designs. And quite complex moreover.
The Aleph J DOES sound much cleaner and "better": the sound potential is much higher! - some experiences with construction (build-up), speakers, sources and setup and tuning provided.
Hello,
many thanks for answers.
Everything about the kx2 sounds really interesing. Is the SX comparable? I don`t need more than 15 Watts, as my speakers are high efficiency. 80 watts are much too much.

Hiragas Classe A and Le Monstre I would prefer.
Equally complementary-transistor push-pull, but much simpler and much fewer components: cleaner sound. These amplifiers have a big, round, powerful sound. Sure, not as resolved as single ended, but conceal wood speakers better than a SE; play the essentials, very "musical".

I built aleph j, measurements look ok, bias stable and offset is ok, but the sound for me was disappointing. The mid frequencies veer towards the highs and the lows are poor. The j fets supplied with the kit were out of size, they broke quickly and I had to replace them at my expense. kx2 sounds perfect to me.Aleph J is a single ended design. And reasonable uncomplex.
