HELP? Screw Sizes - Krell KSA100S - American Sizes
I am based in South Africa and we use the metric system. I need to contact suppliers to get a couple of screws thats missing from a Krell KSA100S that I am restoring.
How do I communicate the sizes? The fractions are one thing as well as the No. size. But I am concerned about the thread pitch/coarseness?
There is basically a couple of screws missing for each type.
Odd question but any help will be highly valued. I am in a remote area and cannot simply visit a supplier. Africa...

Search for "imperial screw size chart", dimensions and head shapes should be listed. The most likely used would be (screw size#/threads per inch): 2/56, 2/64, 4/40, 6/32, 8/32 and 10/32.

Numerical size. #0 has a maj dia on the tap of 0.060 inch. Each size up adds 0.013" to the tap maj diameter. Best source that ships worldwide or at least the used to is McMaster Carr. www,mcmaster.com
6-32 for example would have an OD of close to 0.138" and a pitch of 32 threads per inch.

Assuming you have screws still in the amp that match the missing ones:
Get a set of thread gauges.
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/12503006...MInJG0543F-wIVRO3tCh0MsQAxEAQYAiABEgLG0vD_BwE
Measure thread diameter with a digital caliper or micrometer.
Measure pitch (threads per inch) with the thread gauge.
Match your result to the thread designation from a thread data chart.

Really? That's a bold assumption.
Though, to be fair, if you have can borrow an imperial rule (like say from a museum or from an American friend) 32 tpi is easy to match against the divisions.

AFAIK, home computers in the IBM PC family use US-standard screws to hold cards and mount drives, maybe to mount covers. I think #6-32. Do you have dead PCs in attic or at a friend? (I see mobos use M3. I am sure they once used to be #6 but I have not kept up with trends.)

They may not be long enough for your job. But they are long enough to verify the thread, so you know what to get.

I don't know if they'll ship to South Africa. If they don't and you want something from there, let me know and I'll help you out. It'll probably be the most expensive screws you'll ever buy by the time shipping is included, but you get exactly what you need. Alternatively, once you know what you need see if you can dig it up from China via eBay or Alibaba.
What is the diameter and thread pitch of the screws you have?
Tom

Yes Krell; Mark Levinson; Cello used 4-40/6-32/8-32 and larger thread sizes
They used different "heads" on the screws - "Socket head; Button head"; Flat head". Most used Allen / hex head screwdrivers.
Also used a lot of Black colored screws - called "Black Alloy".
Look up Hobby Hardware - I've used rtlfasteners.com a lot. Good prices on small quantities. Their catalog shows all the head and other "color" options.
