I have built 2 of the ACA and thinking about challenging myself with recapping my Yamaha B-2 myself. Why? In low volumes, the music sometimes jumps from 1 channel to the other. At medium to high volumes, I sometimes get distortion on 1 channel. I haven't been able to locate a technician I would trust within a reasonable distance so I am just guessing that this may fix my issue. For $140 and some of my time, I figure it's worth the gamble. Hopefully I am not totally off and just throwing my money and time down the drain.

No experience with the seller but lots of experience with the B-2.

IMO the amp would certainly benefit from a recap if it hasn't already had one but your issue is more than likely caused by the front panel input switches and attenuators.

Not sure how far he is from you but you could try contacting member Rottalpha. He does excellent work and offers some very nice upgrades to the B-2 which include a front panel switch/atten replacement assembly that's far superior to the original!

Their motto is: "the less you use, the better it works."

Spray a very small amount of cleaner on the contact, and then exercise the pot or switch several times.
Repeat if necessary. Controls that are seldom used may need the most cleaning.

Yamaha B2 should be checked for Power Supply Voltage/ Amplifier Output Offset as well as Bias - all information is available in the service manual. You can check Audiokarma site for more repair restoration information. As with any V-FET output , you need proper bias for the output is available if you replace any components in the Driver section of amp. So additional attention is required as the output V-FET's are diifficult to get

as others have mentioned, the recap will not help you with the issue you are describing.

Also going through the recap process without looking at the replacement caps is an opportunity loss of learning of what each cap does and what a suitable replacement would be based on its function within the circuit. Additionally, you are likely relying on someone's choices who likely did not work on a B-2 before. Notice that they sale kits for every amp under the sun.

true, Deoxit will ameliorate the problem temporarily but not fix it permanently. It will eventually reoccur.

Thanks V fetish. Yes, likely the front selectors assembly.
