I have a CD12 and the spring which supply's the open close return torque via a threading assembly on the side of the mechanism has gone awol-anyone have a scrap mech or part that they could help this one back into life with?
Is it the spring or the cable that's broken?
if it is the spring, and it is not broken in the middle, just release a loop at the broken end to reform a hook and reattach the cable.

Its the spring that's missing in total unfortunately-The cable is still in tact-hence hoping to get a mechanism and do the job by using the cable and spring with the spacer removal tool which can help a great deal with first time replacement and virtually no further alignments or winding etc.The spring torque is approx. 400grams i believe but have tried various and all to no avail sadly. Is it the spring or the cable that's broken?

Many thanks for the advice-already tried one of those in the hope that 1 would do the job, but unfortunately not in this case, so the search continues. But sincerest thanks for all the help so far very much appreciated.
can you explain what happens when you try another spring?
the tray does not come out? comes out too slowly? enters too slowly, the cables derail?

It just requires the CORRECT spring for the job intended! Random spring testing etc has to been to no avail and an exhaustive list of yes and nots to your question are not going to solve the problem. Hence I continue to seek the correct part for the job, at this time it seems only salvageable from a scrap deck or otherwise if available.
Are you a technician and so do you know what you are doing or are you an amateur and you are trying it?
I ask you because really the spring is rather slack and makes a small strength so I believe that even a spring not exactly the same could do the job, but the steel cable must be placed in a certain way so that everything works.
BTW I'm not a technician, but I know how to do it since I recently did it (using the original spring).

Okay, so you surely don't need my suggestions (I'm serious).
However please note that even respecting your idea I continue to believe that even a non-original spring could make the trick once the group "end-cable/spring/end-cable" is correctly positioning (and it is not very simple, as you will know).
Just my 2 cents.
Edit: I leave my post here, but it really should be canceled since it answered to the reply of the OP that however now it has just disappeared. 🙄
