Morning lads,
anyone has experience with this driver? Looks like a good candidate for a compact ported. Plan to build a set of high output 3-ways to use in a room which would be for recreation and playing guitars (loudly) either through a 50W ENGL tube head (driving 2 x 12 Marshall Celestion V30s) or through a high tier processor directly into the audio system. Also considering the Peerless SLS 12" (would be used sealed) and the BMS 15S430.

I've used the visiton bg17-8 as a full range driver for television sound replacement to the 25mm x 75 mm speakers in a 750 mm flat screen tv. 145 mm diameter hole for surface mount. I put them in a cardboard box on the end, 175mm x 175 mm x 350 mm, with a 25 mm square hole in the back. Totally adequate sound 100 hz up. Beams a bit at 4000 hz up. (narrow dispersion). I point it under the coffee table at my chair. I sit 2 m away. I use a 75 w monaural warehouse amp, Peavey MMA-875t. driven by a Toslink to RCA line level converter (ebay $13). Amp mixes the two RCA jack channels with an input card. There is a parameter on the LG TV that allows full volume digital output with the *****y TV sound turned down to 3.

I had the smaller version. They are OK but I think their design is outdated. Their stroke is relatively small (18.5 mm winding height, 8 mm pole plate) and there are no shorting rings to reduce harmonic distortion. With a 2" coil and no magnet vent, it is not a high output PA woofer either.
