I had the misfortune to burn the tweeter ribbon in my left Magnepan 3.6R the other day,
and was wondering, if anyone had a ribbon repair kit or a complete tweeter-ribbon unit, they might be willin´ to sell??
Please PM me with an offer. Shipping is to Denmark.
Thanks.

Magnepan is factory service, so ask the dealer.
Apparently you need special fixtures to repair.
Replacing a tweeter may or may not be a job which you can do yourself.
Being in Denmark, I would expect that to be on the expensive side if it a service job, labor is expensive.

Who are you, to think, that you have any influence on what I should and should not do?? Your reply is not necessary.Magnepan is factory service, so ask the dealer.

Got my audio/video diploma in -79, and have worked in repairs in both for +40 years, so YES, IT IS something,
I can do myself. The prices for a repair-kit in Europe/Scandinavia borders to fraud. Therefore this post in Swap Meet.
Swap Meet is for exchanging parts between forum members. Not for stupid off-topic-comments.
Please stop thinking, that you´re the only one in the world, who knows anything. Stay away, if you don´t have,
what I need.
Bump.
I do not believe the Ribbon Repair kits for the MG3.x and MG20.x (they are same unit) are sold anymore. They have not sold those repair kits for many years...
You can buy new units and send them the damaged cores.
It was around $500 each without the core return and $250 each with the core return (last time I enquired a few years ago)
You can call Magnepan and ask for Mick.

I replaced the ribbons on my 2.5R's some (4-5?) years ago, getting in contact with Magnepan wasn't easy even by phone. FB worked, friendly people when you get hold of them 🙂
The kit comes with 3 membranes at full 3 & 20 series length - and a fumble strip of 10cm to give you a feel for the task.
Unfortunately a friend of mine fumbled with the 3rd. band out of curiosity, despite being warned ("it's 4um" ). So it might have a bit of a curl/dent in the corrugation at one end. But if you are interested let me know - as I sold the speakers to a friend we have this as a back up, and thus you unfortunately cannot have it for free.
The kit among other things includes razor-blades, syringe with needle for the cross pattern gluing of the ribbon and metal bridges to situate the ribbon together with an assortment of magnetic shims for side alignment.

How much was the kit and shipping please?I replaced the ribbons on my 2.5R's some (4-5?) years ago, getting in contact with Magnepan wasn't easy even by phone. FB worked, friendly people when you get hold of them 🙂

You better check with Magneplanar, it is years ago and inflation rate, shipping costs have all gone up since then. If it wasn't for the high shipping costs and 25% Vat + customs on top of that (DK) the completed units would have been an attractive proposition.
I can produce ribbon in any size. Ribbon is 5 micron thick as I know the same as Magnepan use. Also I can repair Magnepan but should be shipped to me.
@Tesla Audio
Thanks for your reply, though I have to correct you.
The original ribbons on the 3.6R´s (tweeters) are 2.5 micron and not 5, so your offer would significantly reduce the
impedance compared to the originals. Maybe the ribbons on the LRS/LRS+ is 5, but NOT the tweeters on 3.6/3.7 😉

Exactly 👍
Just to "bump" the thread.
Still in need of a repair-kit/used but good tweeters from 3.6/3.7.
I know the old repair-kit came with 3 ribbons, so if anyone have a partial used kit with one or two ribbons
left, I´m still interrested.

Not sure for 3.6R model but generally old Magnepans according to Wikipedia use 5micron.@Tesla Audio

Yesterday I tried to add pure dipole ribbon 30x2,5cm on beside of Magnepan LRS. Why I added ribbon. Because measurement shows drops in frequency after 15khz.
Just used capacitors in series with ribbon. Oh my god what improvement. I can't believe.

If you can make/produce 2 ribbons, lenght=1700mm, width=4mm of corrugated 2,5µ thickness, I would be interrested.
Otherwise........ Could you maybe start your own thread about your superior skills for making ribbons??
This is NOT the thread for it.
Thanks.

@Boydk . No I can't produce such ribbon because I don't have alu foil with 2,5µ thickness. Such thickness is almost impossible
to cut except with laser. Even with laser is very difficult. Another problem is handling such length and thickness. It is very fragile. As I know only ribbon microphones use 2,5µ. I'm telling you my experience and I don't need another thread.
Anyway good luck with searching and trying to repair.
