12" driver recommendation for 100l ported enclousure

Hi,

I already have a 100l ported (D 72mm, L max 500mm) enclousure for 12" driver and I'm planning to throw the current driver back to the trash bin.

New driver should handle frequencies from somewhere around 75Hz down to 25Hz. Price range: budget friendly (100€?)

Any recommendations?

Saw the title and thot, plug the vent and install 4 x SDX12.

But that would blow the budget.

Box that big would likelt really benefir from cabinet vibration reduction by using 2 woofers push-push — too bad you aren’t close by, i have a bunch of vinatge Foster woofers that would fit you budget (bit you would need 2 per box).

Time to get teh modeler out and start playing.

I don't know how much the SDX12 shares with the SDX10 but the 10s measured performance is pretty awful vs other subwoofers. I'm paying for the XBL2 motor for a reason and high harmonic distortion is not one of them.

Regardless of what side of the fence you're own about the audibility of non-linear distortion the fact is this performance is shoddy.

This, for comparison, is much cleaner.

Budget Driver is always
Dayton SD315A-88
Would work vented in 100L
Fs is around 24Hz

Assuming you would tune 7 to 10Hz above Fs to get a flat response.

Which would be a similar case with many 12" drivers
most work well in around 55 to 70 Liters
and Fs is around 23 to 33 Hz

So in 100 liters you will basically be tuning above Fs
to likely get a flat response with a lot of drivers.

Can you fit a 15" driver? Are you happy with Restocked items?

IF so the RSS390HF-4 models well as attached.

Green = your box with current port
Will handle 450w power before reaching excursion below 12Hz

Blue = your box with sealed port
Will handle 300w power before reaching excursion below 12Hz

(neither box has stuffing / damping)

Green F3 = 27Hz
Blue F3 = 33Hz

A restocked RSS390HF-4 is on special at USD$169:

Brand new - USD$299.

Thank you all for your input!
I'm totally newbie in speaker designing and building and some of your replies are a bit techical. So, forgive me.

Dayton SD315A-88 seems a viable option. Affortable and available.

Power handling isn't a priority.

Port and driver mount diameter could be changed but its not an option atm.

Interesting. The measured BL curve doesn't look anything like what I'd expect to see from a subwoofer with an XBL^2 motor. They usually have a wide and near-flat BL range through their linear region.

Reactions: GM and cowanaudio
So... Which one would have better transient response in this enclosure?
Yellow line is GRS 12SW-4HE
White line Dayton

GRS tunes 10 hz lower
and using actual alignment in WinIsd
it is actually very close to 100 Liters

I would say GRS for sure
I would measure your existing port
and possibly add length to achieve 23 Hz tuning
to maximize performance.

F3 is pretty smack close to 20Hz

Six of one, half dozen of the other WRT group delay. 😉
I have no idea what are talking about. :S

Tuning GRS to 23Hz would require 17,76cm port length if D = 7,20cm. Correct?

The driver is on its way. 🙂

Simply put, at an upper limit of 75 Hz the box alignment sets its transient response and time/phase (group) delay (the more important spec in this BW) and since both drivers are simmed in the same box, then 'ipso facto' they are the same.
