As the title says: how do you convert a Pass Labs XP-12 from 120 VAC to 230 VAC mains? Is it just a matter of rearranging the primaries of the mains transformer, or is it more complicated?
Also, while we're at it: the Pass website talks about the improved power supply of the XP-12 relative to the XP-10. It's supposed to be more "efficient", and the transformer is said to be more "quiet" due to vacuum treatment. What exactly are they trying to (not) tell me?

yes, Wayne and Pa are resident here, but that's proper way
and , I don't have data for XP12, so can't help

Yep, rearranging the primaries of the mains transformer AND change the primary fuse to half the value of the one used in the 120Vac setup. Ex 6A for 120Vac unit therefore use 3A for 230Vac.

.....
I meant - if you need help with proper procedure
of course it's just rearranging primaries, if Donut is equipped with dual primaries
I am not asking for help on the details of the procedures. All I need to know is if the transformer has multiple primary windings that can be rearranged to suit different mains voltages.
well...... if you are able to do necessary procedure without help, you are also able to see is it dual primary inside or not, without help
it's another thing if you're asking Pre Hoc, without having actual preamp in front of you (but you didn't say that)
anyhow, if preamp is delivered with dual primaries, arranging it to 115 or 230Vac is just that, rewire of primaries

Dear ZM, what's wrong with my earlier question: "All I need to know is if the transformer has multiple primary windings that can be rearranged to suit different mains voltages."?
DOES THE XP-12 HAVE MULTIPLE PRIMARIES OR JUST A SINGLE PRIMARY?
(yes, prehoctoctoc...)

I assume you don't have the XP-12, if so pop the lid and have a look. If not, then as ZM suggested, an email to the friendly people at PL will get an answer. If you go the the PL website and select the XP-12, you are able to ask a question about it via a contact form.
If the particular unit you are looking at is only 120VAC, then you can always feed it with an external 230VAC to 120VAC step down transformer, to suit your mains voltage. I think that they would build a dual primary unit for Europe, but often only a single primary for the US, and then another model for Japan where the AC supply is 100V.
