I have just acquired Rola 66 tape recorder and am considering restoration. One thing I want to do would be to change tape speed. My unit was made to run 7.5 inch/sec and I would like to change it to 15 inch/sec. To do that I need to change the thickness of the capstain shaft. Does anyone have Rola 66 that runs on 15 inch/sec and could measure capstain shaft and post that measurement.
Unless I'm missing something, all you need to do is double the diameter of the existing 7.5 ips,
it should be possible to have a sleeve made and 'loctite' it over the existing capstan

The Rola Company that manufactured the 66 tape recorder was based in Richmond, ( Vic.) Australia. The machines were originally made under the Beyer brand name.
Yes, Byer. Sorry for the error. Rola became Plessey and then eventually improved versions of the original tape recorder concept were manufactured by consolidated Electronics in Thornbury. You mean Byer? Based in South Melbourne?
