so i just got the sl5 slash bedroom amp - very nice - i would like to know if i replace the preamp tubes for NOS- which sockets actually affect the sound - i dont want to put in expensive tubes where they are not needed
V1 is the first pre amp, in the can.
V2 next to it is the final pre amp and mixer.
V3 next to the EL34 is the tone stack and final drive.
V4 EL34 output valve.
It is a Marshall, it will probably have no effect changing the valves.

thanks for that jon - why would it being a marshall make a difference- most tube swaps ive done are usually noticable
In Hi Fi clean amps small changes are noticeable; in a balls to the wall overdriven distorting amp playing through a very far from flat speaker inside a "not designed" cabinet, subtleties get lost.
