any of you know if this is a cap? (red arrow) and if so what type ?
its my mates and he says it has a bit of a hum. I thought transformer hum, but he seems to think it is this component

Beware! That is a Live Chassis record player. There are rules about Live Chassis equipment on this site.
As you have to ask what it is (a dual can electrolytic smoothing capacitor) I would be very careful not to work on it with mains connected.

Oh I'm not going to work on that, it's a friend and he asked the question. I don't do valve equipment, just asking for him. But I will give him your advice
Are you likely to be able to buy replacements for those anyway? More likely to be transformer humming though don't you think?
Warn your friend.
They hum half wave rectification, very cheap construction etc. It won't be the output transformer. You are unlikely to get a dual can, but there are plenty of replacement options.
