TSE 45 - 2a3

You did not state which TSE you have, but the issue is pretty much the same with both boards. The 45's draw 1.5 amps of filament current for a total of 3 amps on the filament regulator. 2A3's draw 2.5 amps each for a total of 5 amps on the regulator. You may need to increase the size of the heat sink on the regulator when running 2A3 tubes.

Swapping in 2A3's alone will not make much more power than the 45's since the 2A3 prefers a 3000 ohm load. They will sound different and will often produce better bass due to the increased damping factor, depending on how your speakers respond to an increased DF.

If your OPT has a 16 ohm speaker tap connecting an 8 ohm speaker to it will reflect a 2500 ohm load to the tube, as will a 4 ohm speaker on the 8 ohm tap.

Thanks for the reply. 300b might be a better choice? I have one of the later boards, could be TSE II.

I bi-amp so these are used for the mid-tweeters. I used to use the 45's exclusively when I had Cornwall's but those were passed down.
