I just got some some kappa pro 15-lfs. And I am wanting to design an enclosure for them. I see that they are designed for ported enclosures, but will they work in a sealed? I am running a sub below them.
Why wouldn't it work in a closed box? You just get a different response than with a ported box. Simulate it and you can see!
Eminence says Qt below .4 is not suitable for closed box. Kappa-pro 15LF2 is 0.3. Watt limit may have to be a lot lower than 600 to prevent exceeding Xmax (cone excursion). Flat frequency response may not be achievable.
The OP said, he wants to use an additional subwoofer for the lowest frequencies and a properly executed sub-sat integration would contain a high-pass filter for the Kappa Pro anyway, so the xmax and non-flat response maybe not a problem.
Yeah, I plan to pass it around 60-80 Hz to my sub, so it wouldn't be operating in lower then that.
I did model it, and it looked fine, it just rolled off at a higher frequency then ported. Why wouldn't it work in a closed box? You just get a different response than with a ported box. Simulate it and you can see!
