I got some wood chips stuck to the cloth surrounds of some B&C sub drivers.
The chips sat there for a while and have sort of been welded on with whatever dope is used to treat the cloth.
Any advice on a solvent that might release them without damaging the surround?
Otherwise it's gonna be a chore with tweezers...

With vintage drivers that use toxic, 'sticky' dope I just either set them outside in Hotlanta's noonday sun or use a hair dryer to soften it up enough to use a tweezer/small paintbrush/whatever to remove them, which always flow back out to like new, though yet to use its supposed functional equivalent latex dope, so just a FWIW/YMMV.
update: I used ethanol and picked out the larger pieces but still couldn't get most of the finer chips and dust out.
The driver is new, and whatever dope used is only slightly softened by alcohol. It still looked bad.
But I remembered I had some black aniline dye, so I mixed it with the alcohol and dabbed it on, now it looks great!

I was going to suggest a felt pen but the old coal tar dye seems to have worked well. Good news for you.
A better solvent is Acetone, just use the minimum amount: "wet" the wood chip with the tip of a Q Tip, let it soften surrounding adhesive a bit and pull it out with tweezers.update: I used ethanol and picked out the larger pieces but still couldn't get most of the finer chips and dust out.

Alcohol is only a mild solvent for regular dope (which is a synthetic latex emulsion)
Toluene and Xylene are also good solvents, only they are harder to get.
On DEA recommendations, both are "controlled substances" here in Argentina because they are listed as "drug manufacturing precursors".
Funny thing is that I, a legitimate user, have to jump through hoops to buy more than 1 liter, must sign forms, show ID, etc. while every jungle lab bust video shows the bad guys have dozens of 200 liter/55 gallon drums of the stuff .... WTF?
They are industrial chemicals, refineries sell them by kilo liter....to qualified buyers.
Some tankers go missing.
Here the toluene was used to flush pipes between batches in a polymer plant, then it was sold as spent solvent, it ended up being mixed as an adulterant for gasoline...
WTF is right, because acetic anhydride is used to make diacetyl morphine, but xylene and toluene are so common here that it would be hard to track a few kl...the sale is about 1000 kl a day from one plant here.

Right, historically most folks just use cheap acetone based fingernail polish remover.A better solvent is Acetone

Interesting! Sadly, (illegal) drug production is alive and well in my state and all these and some other chemicals are available for sale OTC to anyone in any decently stocked big box, paint dept., store in up to 1.0 gal. containers, though no clue if there's any max quantity limitations.
Toluene is trivial for me. 5 gallons $199 via Amazon.Toluene and Xylene are also good solvents, only they are harder to get.

55 Gallons "free shipping" is $970-$1,100 direct from the same factory. I do not see any restrictions except the 55g drum is $130 more if I need a liftgate to get it off the truck (i.e. I don't own a forklift).
