I have an Immedia RPM-2 tonearm but need the damping oil. An article by Michael Fremmer indicates that it uses synthetic motor oil, but doesn't specify the viscosity. I've tried to reach Immedia but it appears they may be out of business. Any suggestions will be appreciated.
I just heard back from Allen Perkins (designer) and here's what he said:
"The oil is Mobil 1 but actually any will do. The reason I choose synthetic is petroleum based oils tended to evaporate faster. Viscosity is also not important because if its thicker you just end up using less than the thinner one. It's a case of listening and adjusting to see how much damping best works with you particular cartridge. "
