Any use for laser mech out of CDP?

I've got a couple of laser and motor mechs salvaged from old CDPs (one Marantz and one NAD) and am wondering if there's something useful I can do with them. Both CDPs went to the bin due to incessant skipping so perhaps the laser/motors are just trash?

The lasers/motors would not skip of themselves, but because of the servo circuits that drive them.
Really? Bearings and gears wear, lasers fade, optics gets cloudy too. Yes sometimes a control loop goes out of adjustment, but I know fading lasers are a common issue (laser diodes run at the limits of the materials involved, its not easy to get a population inversion). Any aspect of the drive mechanism going out of spec can ruin your day and cause skipping, you can't blame the control loop for all that!
