Fostex MG130HR floor standing - frugal horn XL?

Hello, I picked up a pair of the unusual Fostex mg130HR drivers, they seem really nice.

I`m building the recomended enclosure supplied by fostex ( 10.2l BR 62hz port ). Simples.

I love floor standers, not book shelf. Is there a floor stander I can put these drivers into the frugal horn XL for example?

Any advice great fully taken on board.

Thanks you

Data is scarce. The most information i can find is scanty: https://www.diyaudio.com/community/...sium-fullrange-mg130hr-who-have-heard.214584/

Given the shown response, and if that is in the 10 litre box then my guess is that FHXL might be on the big size. You may have to squeeze it into FH3.

Hi guys. Thanks for the reply. I have attached the limited data that came with the drivers. There is not much data & it’s in Japanese

I do have a pair of frugal horn mk3’s with removable baffles (cut by Ben in Australia). I could try making some new baffles & squeezing them in there. I also have what I think are Jordan ja92s In a unknown cabinet that I could possibly squeeze them into. Both of these speakers have the wife’s approval.

please let me know your thoughts I think these drivers should be quite good.

thanks in advance

FE103 Sol? An excellent driver.

The data is missing one ket data point, Vas

From the 8.5 litre box we can guess that to a certain extent. That and the available does continue to point to FH3. Using an SB we squeezed TB W5-111 and the FE138sER. That last could well use the same basket (Fostex never seems to miss an opportunity to amortize their baskets across multile drivers, and multiple decades.

Thanks Dave, much appreciated.

I think I will try and make some baffles to make the drivers fit the Fr mk3’s. Not much to loose.

I will base what I do on the pic you attached of putting the FE138esr driver in the FH.

that fe138esr driver looks great but very expensive. Much more sensitive than the MG130HR I have.

mare there any discussions on how that baffle was made or am I best off just using the picture as a guide?

thanks again

If "m0" is Mms, which would make sense at 7.8g, I calculate Cms to be 0.965mm/N. You can measure Sd physically to complete for Vas:

Vas = 1.184 * 345² * Cms * Sd

Use 0.000965 for Cms and Sd is in square meters, result will be in cubic meter, multiply by 1000 to get in liters.

I suppose you can double-check the result against the quoted efficiency of 87dB/W/m, which seems OK for midband according to the graph.

The are related. Yours has the same kool surround. The eSR is more exotic, but they put the screach into the Fostex shout.

There are drawings in the planset.

Thanks Dave, very very much appreciated as always. I will build some new baffles and give them a try.

PS yes they are 103 sol`s in my FH. From memory I purchased 4 sets of them for very little money when I moved back to Australia. I gave / swapped one set with Ben and kept the other 2 as I love fostex. I`ve always been meaning to build something wife friendly with multiple 103`s.

Serendipitously ( not a word I use very often ) I purchased these MG130`s unknowingly from the wife of the gentleman that sold me the 103-sol`s 7 or more years ago. Its a small world!

Let me research these baffles and get them made. I`m dying to hear the MG130`s even though they are the least sensitive speaker I have owned in a long time!!

Thanks again Dave and all the best

Chris
