Why is the standard FM and TV antenna called "Yagi"? Mr Hideisugu Yagi is why.

Thanks for clearing that up. I often wondered who invented the Yagi antenna but never got around to looking into it.

I always wondered whether he derived the positions and lengths of the numerous directors and the reflector from Maxwell's equations or experimentally. Either case it is one of the biggest achievement in applied science. Thanks for clearing that up. I often wondered who invented the Yagi antenna but never got around to looking into it.

Shintaro Uda was his assistant. They both invented the antenna, but only Yagi applied for the patent. So what about poor Uda?
The paper can be found and read online (HTML or PDF) free.I always wondered whether he...

I see his teaching includes more than the Yagi we know. He has a trigonal reflector we only see in very fancy work. Spacings are stated without derivation or explanation. Those patterns are mighty sharp for just a few rods.
The single ownership of patent may be a thing in old Japan's patent laws, or university culture, or who knows what. In today's USA, shared patents are routine, but for-hire invention usually gets assigned to the company, and in university patent rights are sometimes vigorously negotiated (or not: many cases the prof signs-over the whole deal).
And then there is the rest of the story.
Shame we do not have AM/FM section here. Antennas are essential.

Not talking antennas here would be like not talking tape or needles. I'm sure we are in the right room.
And if you're into designing your own antennas there's a tool called NEC2 for the job: https://www.nec2.org/
Antennas are essential, but not for audio.Shame we do not have AM/FM section here. Antennas are essential.
AM/FM is not used everywhere.
