Neurochrome Modulus 86 V3 For sale

I have up for sale my Neurochrome Modulus 86 v3 stereo amplifier. I used all the recommended components - no substitutions (I had to source parts from 9 different vendors). It's all in Neurochrome's custom built chassis and uses the Antek power supply. High quality wire and solder was used.

I purchased and installed the Speakon connectors and the 12v trigger, but those are not wired up.

Asking just what I paid for the parts and components - $1200 plus shipping.

Any questions, please email me at brian.terreau@gmail.com

Thanks!

Hi Tom - I'm selling it because it just doesn't have enough power for the speakers I'm using. I built a pair of GR Research NX-Treme's which have a stated efficiency of 94.5 dB. I assumed that 40w/ch was going to be plenty. However, in practical terms it just isn't enough. The midrange and treble were absolutely beautiful with this amplifier. The best amp I have tried with these speakers, in fact. However, the bass just wasn't there. The NX-Treme is a line array speaker which has (2) 6.5" midrange drivers, a single tweeter, but (8) 6.5" woofers each. I suspect that the stated efficiency, which is measured at 400Hz really doesn't take into account how much power is needed to drive all the woofers.

In any case, the amplifier is fantastic - it just doesn't fill out the bottom end like some of my more powerful amplifiers with these speakers.

Sometimes "lacking bass" can be because the bass has been cleaned up. Lower THD -> less harmonic content -> lower perception of harmonic extension -> "lacking bass".

Your explanation that the drivers require more power at lower frequencies makes sense too, though. In that case the Modulus-686 would be your friend.
