Discovered this website selling various diy kits of grado headphones. How do these compare to genuine grado headphones? These diy kits are considerably cheaper than the originals so I'm interested. https://earphonediylabs.com/shop/gr...ood-over-ear-open-back-headphone-and-diy-kit/
I can't answer your question but...WOW! They are practically begging for multiple cease and desist letters. I would not trust anything they write and highly doubt you would get what you thought you were paying for.
Why am I not surprised?
"Earphone DIY Labs is a online store in Redmond, WA, Unite State with product design and engineering team
in Beijing, China. We don’t have office to accommodate visitors yet but in planning."

"We source directly from factories who manufacturing or assembling components for earphone vendors like Sennheiser, AKG, BOSE, Shure, JBL, etc. So we get really reasonable price. Although we can not disclose most names of our upstream sources as it’s our business privacy, we can tell you one of them is Foster in Panyu City, China, the biggest earphone drivers manufacture in the world"
Unsure how they can take the bits, then call them by their true brand name under some "DIY Kit" moniker. They dont exactly say they have license to do so...

Tempted to buy a kit. If I get scammed at least others will know not to buy from them. But they do seem oddly legit. They even made a ama on reddit
I like this little gem from the Meze Classic 99 driver page:
"Note the driver is taken from brand new headphones with front cover, so it might be with a little bit glue. We ensure it is 100% new and never used."

I wonder if they're harvesting drivers from product that fails cosmetic QC? Depending on the deal the factory has with supplier, it may be that they're allowed to sell them on as component parts.
But, yes, it looks like they'll have a short business life...
