QUAD 44 balance issue

Hi All, I have a late Quad 44 without the tone cancel option. I have traced a balance issue down to the balance slider itself. Will it be a problem if I bypass the balance slider and connect up the input and output of the slider directly?

Depends, post the correct schematic here.

No it won't be a problem, but you can disassemble the slider and fix it. The problem is usually the rather weak piece of plastic that holds the fingers on to the sliding part. Just re-melt it quickly with a soldering iron.

Thank you ejp, the 44 works perfectly now with the slider and mono switch bypassed. I will take the slider apart and have a look.

I have put the balance slider back after a thorough clean with isopropyl alcohol and have balance restored. Not bad for a forty year old!
