Maeshowe impressions

The Maeshowes with Pluvia 7.2 HD are playing. I had to taper down the bass by placing polyfill in the channels that are reachable from the outside. The other speakers are bass reflexes with Tangband W5-2143 and 3 notch filters (design Hobby Hifi, Germany). The Maeshowes project a fuller sound stage and play slightly louder. Apart from that the sound is similar. All in all I am pretty pleased with them.

I am building Maeshowes with P7HD right now and I am trying to figure out how I will tune the damping before final permanent assembly. I suspect Hank Moody had already glued his boxes and had no choice but to stick the polyfill in from the back. I can’t think of a practical way to temporarily install the final side panel (perfectly sealed) for listening tests. Peel and stick foam weatherstripping plus a shedload of clamps might be the only option, but the chances of air leaks are significant and I’d need to spend a small fortune on clamps. Also, removing all the weatherstripping might prove to be a PITA.

Thanks Dave! I assume you meant “throats”. So pull the driver and work with damping in the immediately accessible area of the throats. Sounds doable. I had wrongly assumed in the past that the extra damping (if needed) would need to be teased out and distributed in the first long sections of the horn, between the mouths and the first corners.

Hoping to start gluing very soon!
