Hi. Dali Rubicon 6, have a special edition (Black Edition) where the caps in the signal path for the tweeters is changed to Mundorf M-Cap types from bipolar types.
I have a set of Rubicon 2 (and LCR) where i would like to upgrade the caps to the same type. I am surprised to see bipolar in the signal path for the tweeters, as normally way back Dali used film types here, even for the cheap speakers. Dont know, perhaps its to separate the Rubicon from the Epicon series, as the tweeter is excact the same, and only very small change to the woofers magnetic system.
Is that a good idea to change from bipolar to film? (seriously i havnt ever had a bipolar cap in a speaker before lol)
Was wondering if only those in signal path for tweeter is good to change or also perhaps the big values in the woofer section. I can see, the crossovers is some variation over simple 2 order type.
The values from the bipolar Bennic, is easy to find excactly as Mundorf. Space might be a bigger problem especially for the woofer section, and i dont know if its worth it here.
Anyone with some silimar experience chiming in?

Can't hurt and no worries about long term degradation, but doubtful you would hear a big difference. Maybe you would. I can't tell you what you hear. It is 50-50 to my ears if I actually hear a difference. I have no evidence from my ears of any difference between cheap Dayton film caps and the esoteric copper foil "audiophile special" stuff. I am not going to call "audiophile" caps snake oil as there are real physical measurable differences and nothing requires magic to be discernable, but how relevant is personal.
I keep laughing when I see the desire for low ESR when it is followed by a resistor, as in lowering the Q or a Zoble. Same thing with inductor wire gauge. Sure, for the LP to the woofer, but not elsewhere. Do I care if the coil has .2 or .3 Ohms when it is in series with 10 Ohms? I have not decided on resistors from cheap Dayton wire round to various films. They may be more significant. I intend to test that in my current build plan. ( CSS/XT-25)
Even if there is no real sonic change, if it makes you think it is, well the goal is to enjoy the music. Music after all is a figment of our imagination. In reality, it is just pressure changes.

Thx. Will give it a try.
I also have it a bit difficult with those Mundorf caps, but imo its cheap anyway, and as Dali use them its better for resale value anyway i guess.
