DIY DEBRA

Hi I would like to build a DEBRA/SWARM array.

Does anyone know the driver used in the array? If not maybe a similar build with a 10" driver.

I live in Denmark and the shipping cost and import taxes makes the DEBRA to expensive.
It's four boxes and 4 drivers plus a not very expensive amplifier.

Hope to hear from someone that has build something similar

Has been looking at this driver https://www.parts-express.com/Dayton-Audio-RSS265HO-44-10-Reference-HO-DVC-Subwoofer-295-463

Simply Audiokinesis brand-name for a set of 4 woofers. And where they are put and where they are set.

The key is 4 woofers, not the driver. Geddes and Toole are covered extensively here.

To do it proper takes 4 (a minimum) of 8 woofers so you can build push-push pairs. In my room, i can get away with 2.

You don't need to import the specific Dayton driver. We have tons of good subwoofer drivers available here in Denmark/Europe.

You just need 4 or more subwoofers to make the swarm effect work. And there are also many other great options for amplifiers instead of the Dayton Kilomax

I'm running 8 10" peerless XLS sealed units on a Crown XTI 1000 and it's fantastic. You can check out the process here

Thanks, Getting closer 🙂 The thread has 127 pages. Trying to find your project, can you help?

Hi Martin

I just finished reading the 128 pages thread, to try and understand the Geddes approach. Lots of good information in that thread! Especially the last 30 pages or so.

Geddes says:

Forget all about T/S parameters and all the HiFi bla bla, it's 2022 with DSP/EQ and cheap poweramps.

Build closed boxes. And then EQ the box to fit requirements.

Use big pro woofers with big motors (Bl) that can move some air. So maximize SD, Bl, X-max and look for God powerhandling (Watts).

Geddes favorit woofers are B&C 12tbx100 and 15tbx100 in something like 75 to 100 liter boxes. He uses EQ to make the subs go low and shape the response-curve as needed. I Think he has a total of five 15" woofers in closed boxes in his listening-room. He states he has enough headroom to go low and loud.

It is interesting to see, that pro-woofers are NOT more expensive than hifi-woofers. Look up some B&C or Faital Pro drivers on TLHP.

Remember to create an account and log in, then it shows different/better prices!?

I guess a MiniDSP and some four channel Amp is the way to go. The Amp could be an old 5.1 surround receiver with pre in and out.

God byggelyst, håber du præsenterer din "sværm" og hvad du kommer frem til her på diyAudio.

Steffen @hornsteff,

You can read on my Geddes adventure here. Post#59 in that linked thread has descriptive details. Good luck on your adventure. My next venture will be implementing Accurate or AudioLense a la Mitch Barnett and import the resulting correction filters (convolution filters) into HQPLAYER’s DSP engine so correction can immediately start upstream and not be limited to just midbass/bass (<300Hz). I will also be moving the subs since I don’t need them to be at the positions they are currently since the room has just been reconfigured for 2ch instead of combo 2ch/HT. The new placement will be more optimal I think (more like Harman‘s as opposed to a Geddes‘ recommendation; that being said, with 4 subs, the restrictions are much looser for placement due to less statistical variances).

Best,
Anand.

Hi Anand

I actually expect Accurate to work well with the Multi bass approach, like optimize all the hardware before applaying software.

I´m going to read your Geddes-adventure, good to know who to ask if I need some advise!

Best
