SCOTT PS 48A 1 Turntable, any good?

Hi All.

Just been given a SCOTT PS 48A 1 direct drive Turntable.
Are these any good?

It ha a cartridge which I haven't been able to identify.
Marked SSM / 5, with 2 circles and 3 parallel lines above the letters.
Any information would be appreciated.

Its not direct drive, the legend says "servo belt drive", which probably means a DC motor belt system. This is an automatic model with what looks like a lightweight tonearm (compared to the PS 47 model) - perhaps this allows the mechanism to move it around easier. I could only find manuals for the PS 47, which may or may not have similar specs. Can't help with the cartridge.

Looks to be a standard OEM job out of the CEC factory in Japan. It has the least costly straight tonearm and i would guess a hollow plastic chassis?

So this is the bottom end. Likely $150ish in its day. Probably better than the cheap DDs.

So nothign special. It will likely need a new belt and the cartridge should at least be properly aligned and/or replaced.

Thanks Mark & Dave.
The Mass. U.S.A. label on the back made me initially think it was U.S. made.
I guess Made in Japan is a good consolation.
It came with the output wire terminals cut off so I need to fit rca's before I can evaluate its performance.
Not being a vinyl guy I fell for the strobe rim pitch control at the front and automatically thought direct drive. But yes, it does have a belt.
The pitch control is a nice feature to have.
