I happen to have some unused speaker cabinets in my shop 1.6 cu ft interior volume. Baffles accommodate a 10 inch woofer. I was thinking of building a 10 inch 3 way. Any published designs out there that I can build to?
Hi,
I am still listening to, and enjoying Paul Carmody's Tarkus speaker. With my KEF LS-50s in the closet. But I like mostly old Rock and Roll and vocals.
But they need closer to 3 cubic feet.

Enjoy the hunt.

1.6 cu ft is probably best suited to an 8" driver, but the Peerless 830668 might work
(isn't that what the Tarkus uses?)

build the Tarkus with 62L with the 10" 830668, as Paul did, and he tunes it to 30Hz using a 4" x 13.5" port.
If you want to maintain the same cabinet tuning of 30Hz, you use a 3" port x 10" port in 1.6cu ft.
You lose about 5Hz in extension but what you gain is a smaller cabinet. Just keep the baffle dimensions the same, particularly important is the width near the topand midwoofer and tweeter placement the same
That's about it.

I may be incorrect on the volume appears larger I will check again.
BTW I dont need low bass extension as I using GR Research H Frame subs.
Also 8 inch is Ok also

KLH Model Five is sort of classic concept at purest. LR2 acoustic xo around 380 and 2800 Hz, sealed box. Easy to copy and make. Quaranteed success!

I built the Tarkus close to design spec but changed the shape of the boxes keeping the baffles exactly as recommended. O M G. They sound better every time I listen to them. I suspect it takes quite a while for them to loosen up but once they do it is bliss.
I am looking to build a 3way in a 35-40l box (about 1.5cuft) using a SB WO24P-4, Morel EM1308 and ET448. All models well with LR2 electrical circuits with a tank on the woofer to reduce the break up and a small notch on the tweeter. This volume is ideal for a sealed alignment but is what Jeff Bagby used in the Helios with a SB29NRX passive radiator and Troels Gravesen used in his SBA941 bass reflex ported, so looks pretty flexible. It also looks like the SB29NRX-8 (not 6ohm version) works in similar size boxes instead of the WO24.
Not built yet but hopefully in the new year.
IIRC the Seas KingRoy (coaxial plus 26ROY woofer) can be built in a 40l box eith ported or passive radiator.

I was thinking of using a really good tweeter such as a beryllium or RAAL. I can go 8 inch as I think I may be better off. I will also need a mid that can go pretty high to meet either of those tweeters
