NAD 3020e – motorized volume control

Hi, this is Ale from Italy, any answer will be really appreciated.

I own a NAD 3020e (it's been like 12 years since I purchased it on eBay from the UK.. good old ebay times, when buy it now wasn't that commonplace), and it works perfectly. Nonetheess I miss something... a remote control, just for the volume!

I can solder and I am well experienced in DIY projects, even though not in electronics. I have found the schematics for my NAD, and it says the volume potentiometer (which is knurled) is a 50kbx2 (which I admit I don't really know what the meaning is).

Anyway, I'd like to swap it for a motorized one, with a remote control. A good start would be knowing which of the many on ebay or amazon is the right one. Then some soldering advice or how to make it work would be best.

Ciao and thanks,
Alessandro.

Just my opinion; you have a classic hifi amplifier, keep it as is.
There are comparable NAD amps such as C325BEE models with remote controls that show up on ebay. Just buy one of these.

Having a remote control is a nice, user convenience feature but things have changed since the days when LPs were ceremonially preened before playing and owners would jump up from their sofa to change settings whenever a problem was detected, phones rang, family matters interrupted your relaxation or there was a knock at the door.

With digital sources, there are other, software ways to do volume controls, often with remote control via even your mobile phone and apps. Take a look at network players or streamers. Some are as cheap and much simpler and faster than trying to modify your amplifier to fit a bulky, motorised pot. plus control circuits.
