Shigaclone pcb

I'm looking for a good cd transport and the shigaclone seems like one. Does somebody have a pcb for sale or does someone have a gerber file of such for making one? (direct me to the right place if this thread is made in the wrong forum)

I have one of these spare, I'm located in Ireland, so no customs issues etc.

It's from 2012, never used other than to power on to make sure it was working. It has a very basic power supply, and would probably benefit from a better one. I'm sure it's a pretty early version from back when the original boomboxes dried up.

In truth, I would think there have been many refinements since back then, so it might not be what you are looking for.

Yes, sorry the pics don't show that - its the sanyo mech that goes with this. Basically with the bits here you get a fully functional shiga with spdif output. You'd need to mount it all in a box.

BUT you should take a look at the shiga thread (might have been in the group buy threads too) and see were there big advances made after this was made. I se I soldered a link wire and a resistor loose on that main board - and I can't remember why!! Also, I haven't used this in a long while, so would need to check that its working OK too.

This looks like the original Vicol Audio re-engineered shiga clone. This is NOT from a JVC boombox. It will be superior (but not as good as Tibi’s final Shiga Black PCB version - I dont know what the differences between versions are) Just need to get 16pin SP101n mechanism if Fran doesn’t have it.

Get some spare laser modules as well because there is a key mod to be done there that is quite difficult and it is easy to damage the part - many of us have been there done that but the leap in sound quality to be achieved through this particular mod is like the difference between night and day so is we’ll worth the cost of a couple of failures.

Use Vishay naked for 100r & 300r resistors on output.

For the capacitor attached to Pin 10 on LA9242 (it’s C8 on the Shiga Black) use best film capacitor you can afford- eg. Mundorf or Duelund.

That crystal fitted is good. Go to Tentlabs (or NewClassD Neutron) with own power if you want!!

So -sorry about the lack of response the last few days.

sthcoaster is right - this is the vicol re-engineered one, but an early one. The later ones are undoubtedly better.

BUT I have hit a snag, I powered it up and its not reading discs properly - I have a brand new mech that I'll try with it, but I hope to get a bi of workbench time this weekend and I'll see if that's it.

Yep, always good place to start with a vanilla (new) mechanism when testing. I keep one without mods just for this sort of thing.

Then I guess you will go look at where you've soldered that extra resistor and jumper? Although I have just dug up the manual that goes with that V1.6 PCB and see those mods are to do with increasing contrast of the display so nothing to do with laser etc.
