I am being threatened with a Naim NAP120 for a "recap" job. The distributor does a kit of parts for this at quite a high price. Is there anything in there that cannot be sourced from all the regular (RS/E14/Digikey/Mouser) suppliers with whom I regularly do business?. I have not yet laid eyeballs on this beast so uncertain what is involved (big reservoirs only? a zillion tiny tantalums?). Anyone been there & done that?.

Looks like about ten tantalums and three big cans. Gonna be difficult to replace those.

You'll need to get some new clamps, redrill some holes to suit. (reuse the old screws because they're countersunk - yes you'll have to counter sink the new holes slightly on the TX side )
Like these: RS PRO Capacitor Clip for use with 30 mm Dia. Capacitor Nylon | RS Components
(or whichever suits the diameter of your replacement caps - the caps can be snap-in or tagged if you're feeling generous)

How I’d approach it (no expert): I don’t see why you’d touch the tants. The aluminium caps, sure, replace them with best parts you can find. Maybe some careful cleaning of the pcb’s because they may have some grubby flux on the joints.

Yup. tants do not age well. Replaced hundreds of them in an old Neve (why, Rupert, why?) and they smell real bad when they go tits up.

If you can make us some nice close-up photos of a PCB to be able to record the values of the resistors, that would be super nice for the Naim 140 clone thread 🙂

Naim were quite fussy about the quality of the electrolytics and stuck with the local BHC brand until it was absorbed by Kemet. If your customer is a Naim enthusiast, they will expect the best quality available or at least another original, respected manufacturer's product.
Don't simply fit whatever 1,000 hr rated "poc" cap. is in the catalog. These days, Naim fit Rubycon CE caps but I don't see why any other respected brand, equivalent type wouldn't do as well. I prefer Nippon Chemicon product if I can get it but there are always options that will probably perform and last as well.
